Annual Election Notice It’s that time again. Next January the Seattle Unit Board will welcome four newly elected (or reelected) board members. The Unit Board is responsible for planning and conducting our sectionals and I/N sectionals, the monthly unit game, the team round robin and other bridge events. The Board is also responsible for the financial well-being of the unit. The Board meets between nine and eleven times a year, usually on the first Monday of the month.
This is a working board, as opposed to a policy board. Of course the board decides policies for the operation of the unit, but the board members are the primary engine that drives the bridge events in Unit 446.

    Board members are expected to
  1. attend board meetings and participate in discussions and decision making
  2. lead at least one committee
  3. volunteer for other assignments such as chairing an event or providing refreshments for a unit game
  4. whenever possible, be present to help setup and tear down tournaments
  5. help with cleanup at MUG games
  6. treat other board members with respect and courtesy, both at and away from meetings
  7. and above all, remember that the focus of all our efforts, decisions and labors is to make bridge a great experience for all involved. We are a team.
If you are interested in serving on the unit board, please email the current board at sbuboard@lists.kence.org or contact a current board member. The deadline for filing is September 10. Include a statement of candidacy of up to 150 words of why you would like to serve.

New Board Members

There were six spots available on the unit board in the recent election. Since there were only six candidates for the posi-tions, no formal elections were held, according to the process specified in the unit bylaws. The new board members are Di-anne Cox, Aren Kasner, Barbara Nist, Curt Peterson, Ann Romeo, and Nancy Strom. Aren and Nancy will serve 2 year terms and Dianne, Barbara, Curt, and Ann will serve 3 year terms, as we move toward a uniform 3 year term for board members.

Many thanks to out-going board members Pat Dunn, Julie Godefroy, Beth McCaslin, and Linda Mamula for their years of service.

Since the election, Mary Ruth Blustein and Barbara Nist have resigned their positions. Thanks also to Mary Ruth and Barbara for their service. For positions that come open between elec-tions, the board appoints the replacements. Bill Sayer and Jeff Ford will be replacing Mary Ruth and Barbara.

The unit board is open to all active members of the unit; we encourage questions and appreciate input.

The twelve volunteers, plus many occasional helpers & bakers served over 5700 players at four Seattle Sectional tournaments this year. Add twelve MUG games and two I/N sectionals, eleven meetings and other behind-the-scenes efforts to keep equipment stocked, and supplied and … you get the picture.

Please contact a board member if you wish to participate in an active election in 2010, or if you are willing to volunteer in another way. We could always use more help. Thank you for your participation at our tournaments; if you're having fun, invite your friends.
